LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State volleyball team pulled off a five-set victory against Boise State, Thursday night at the Pan American Center.

Boise State certainly brought the heat in set one, recording a .214 hitting percentage.  Outside hitter Fiona Jones finished the set with five kills and two digs while teammates Sadie Maughan and Alisha Young each had three kills.

With a hitting percentage of .000, set one for the Aggies was off to a tough start, but they managed to make the best of it.  Senior Kayleigh Giddens led the squad with four kills in the set while teammates Whitney Woods had two kills and one block and Amanda Tonga had two kills.  The Broncos took the match 25-20.

The Aggies rallied together in set two, winning 25-19.  Giddens once again led the Aggies in kills with seven, while teammates Woods and Tonga each compiled four kills each.  The team’s hitting percentage improved greatly to .273, while the Broncos’ hitting percentage fell in this match to .000.  Coming out on top was NM State with a score of 25-19.

BSU showed great team work in the third set, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Aggies.  Junior Kelsey Brennan showed off her amazing talent with seven kills and one block improving her hitting percentage to .538.  Tonga had eight kills and one dig to finish off the set.  The Aggies closed the match at 25-12.

In the fourth set, the Broncos and Aggies both fought hard to take this win.  Brennan and Giddens each had a total of 13 kills.  The Aggies were unable to match Boise’s .243 hitting percentage, losing 25-21.

NM State was not about to lose the fifth set, and it certainly showed.  Tonga pulled off a season high of 10 kills by the end of the match, while Brennan managed 13 kills on the night.
