Daily Dig – Oct 26

Gettin’ in Jade Michaelsen’s face

In its weekly “Face-to-Face” feature, the Albuquerque Journal features the prolific setter.  Check out page D-2. Subscription is required.

OK – I missed it

As reader “Mike” pointed out, I missed a huge win by Las Cruces over Rio Rancho in four sets. I saw a few of the Cruces players on Sunday, and not a word was said about it. Sorry about that.

Games to Watch

Rio Rancho vs Cibola

The big question for Rio Rancho: what will their state of mind be with two straight losses to New Mexico-based teams be? Has that ever happened? Cibola looks to be on the rise, taking powerhouse Cleveland to four sets last week. Coach Manzanares’ biggest task will be getting his team in the right mindset for this match.

Eldo vs La Cueva

Back at full strength, La Cueva will have to deal with a team that is known for it’s “comeback-ability”. Is if the chemistry between La Cueva’s Warren and setter Torr at 100%? I have a funny feeling it is. One thing for sure, Warren’s return should make life for Sydney Kemper much more comfortable.

Eldorado has the home court advantage tonight, but hasn’t seen a whole lot of challenges lately. Setter Michelle Skinner has alot of options, including Taylor Small and Kayla Dobson. Look for this to be a great battle at the net.

  1. Of course Julia and Brandi’s chemistry isn’t off. They’ve played together enough to not let a little suspension knock them off, plus Julia has to be one of the best if not the best hitter in the state. Michelle is a great setter, but I hear she isn’t setting, but hitting, just a side note.
Rio Rancho will beat Cibola. Cibola has some talented girls, especially in Stephanie Wilson, but they aren’t quite there yet. Remember they have a new coach this year, and Yun is doing great things with them.
