Games to Watch

Albuquerque Academy @ St. Pius 6:30

This is a great rivalry. Academy is riding high on eight consecutive wins, suffering their last loss to La Cueva at the Metro Tournament on September 9th–St. Pius will be their toughest challenge since.

Elizabeth Sun looks to get the Charger offense going in a tough environment–Megan Reynolds and Kaira Lujan will be busy in both phases of the game trying to score against a stingy Sartan defense and more importantly, trying to contain the Sartan front row.

St. Pius’ Lexi Biondi is coming into her own after a huge night against Sandia. Typically Weber is the problem for opposing defenses, but Biondi (not to mention Roveto) should be on their mind. If she isn’t, she’ll quickly remind them that she’s there.

Jasmine Serna, the outstanding St. Pius setter, has a luxury of choosing from a great arsenal of weapons; it’s not going to be easy against Academy, but I think she’ll be up to the challenge.

UNM @ NMSU 7:00 PM

UNM seems to have had the upper hand in past few years; not sure about this year. The squad seems to suffer from a Jekyll-Hyde complex, especially at the outside hitter position. If the hitters show up to play, it should make things interesting. Consistency is killing the Lobos, and this may be their downfall–again. Ashley Rhoades can only do so much.

NMSU, while rebuilding this year, has been a pleasant surprise for many of the fans. After a complete and utter spanking of Utah State on Saturday, the Aggies must feel confident at home. If the UNM hitters DO play with any kind of consistency, Kelsi Phillips (coming off a career high 30 digs against Idaho) will be busy.

Look for a battle royale in the middle with Ashley Rhoades matching up against the Kelsey Brennan/Desiree Scott duo.
