It looks like the APS Metro Tournament shook things up. It is still a little curious that Alb Academy did not jump to #1 in 4A after winning the whole thing. In 5A the loss of key players (disciplinary) has caught up to La Cueva. Meanwhile, Eldorado makes the biggest climb from seven to four and looks fairly solid. What do 5A-#1 Rio Rancho, 4A-#2 Albuqerque Academy and 5A-#4 Eldorado have in common? They are led by members of NM Juniors 17-1(Geoff)team. This team did not get the print that NM Juniors 16-1(Marc) and 15-1(Russ)did because they did not qualify for nationals, but thier SURVA runner-up finish to EP Wildfire was more than just respectable. At least early in the season, the talent and experience of the Juniors 17-1 players is making a difference. Keep and eye out for Trombley and Clark (Rio Rancho); Holt and Hood (Alb Academy); and Rossillion and Small (Eldorado).
Thanks for the post!
I agree; the Juniors have some quality players that are making their mark in the prep arena.
Eldorado is heading down to play Las Cruces this Saturday, so it’s another good opportunity to see where the Albuquerque are in relation to the south teams.
