NMSU goes west

The Aggies are in Tucson today, face Pepperdine at 11:30 AM and Texas State at 6:00 PM. NMSU then meets Arizona tomorrow. You might recall UNM swept Pepperdine in late August at the MCM Elegante Classic. Also, Pepperdine took No. 1 Stanford to four sets during the same tournament.

About Pepperdine

The Waves are 6-4 in their season after taking two sweeps last week at the UNLV tournament against Cal State Fullerton, UNLV and another win over Eastern Kentucky 3-2. This is the first match between the Aggies and Waves since 1983 when the NM State swept Pepperdine. Leading the way offensively for Pepperdine is junior Kim Hill who is posting 3.47 kills per set while defensively junior Stevi Robinson is leading the way posting 4.09 digs per set.

About Texas State

The Bob Cats are 6-5 in their 2010 season after defeating both Tennessee-Martin and The University of North Texas 3-1 in both matches and being swept by The University of Alabama. The last time the Aggies played the Bob Cats was the in Official All-Star Café/UNLV Classic in 1998 the Aggies defeated the Bob Cats 3-2.

Leading the way defensively for the Bob Cats is Jennifer Neice who has 110 digs already this season and is posting 3.55 digs per set. Offensively leading for the Bob Cats is Preslie Alexander with 93 kills this season and posting 2.66 kills per set.

About Arizona

The Wildcats head into their match against the Aggies receiving votes in the nation with a 6-2 record this season. Last week the Wildcats defeated both Nevada 3-1 and Northern Arizona 3-2 and took a loss from Pacific 3-1. The last time the Aggies played the Wildcats in 2003 they had a 2-13 record.

Lobos are in Florida at the Hilton Garden Inn Invite in Tampa, Fl. where they will face South Florida, Jacksonville and Florida Atlantic

About South Florida (3-5)

The Bulls, under the direction of head coach Claire Lessinger, went 1-2 in the Southern Illinois Invitational over the weekend in Carbondale.  This weekend’s Hilton Garden Inn Invitational will be the first home matches of the season for USF.  Sophomore outside hitter J’beria Davis leads the Bulls’ attack with 2.96 kills per set, while freshman middle blocker Andrea Rodriguez Gomez leads the front row defense with 0.93 blocks per set.  Junior libero Janice Rivera averages 4.10 digs per set from the back row.  Senior setter Mariana Thon averages 9.07 assists per set.

About Jacksonville (4-6)

The Dolphins, under the direction of head coach Shaun Kupferberg, went 2-1 in the UCF Invitational over the weekend in Orlando.   This will be JU’s fourth weekend in a row on the road.  The Dolphins have yet to play a home match.  Senior outside hitters Aidan Yeager and Brittany Lehman lead the offense with 2.35 and 2.28 kills per set.  On defense, freshman middle blocker Alyssa Robertson leads the front row with 1.17 blocks per set, while junior libero Ashley August leads the back row with 3.42 digs per set.  Kendall Courtney is the freshman setter for JU and averages 8.78 assists per set.

About Florida Atlantic (6-5)

The Owls, under the direction of head coach Jody Brown, went 0-3 at the LSU Invitational over the weekend in Orlando.  Sophomore middle blocker Christina Wallinger leads the attack with 2.69 kills per set with senior setter Joanne Marras Tate averaging 9.05 assists per set.  Defensively, sophomore libero Cintia Nightingale averages 3.49 digs per set while senior middle blocker Kristyna Dzmuranova averages 0.87 blocks per set.
