Given the walloping Cruces put on Mayfield last Thursday, I was a little surprised at the outcome of this game. As many fans in the 3-5A region know, Mayfield, Cruces and Gadsden all have strengths that match up particularly well against their district foes; this season seems to be a bit topsy-turvey as Gadsden has […]

There’s no official tournament MVP, but Nathalie Castellanos could easily have earned the honor. Castellanos typically is a threat, but I’ve never seen her play so consistently and dominating […]

The Panthers beat Mayfield in three straight sets, in a hard-fought match Saturday afternoon. “I thought it was a great tournament with a solid field. We are proud to win the Sweet Sixteen Championship for Gadsden High,” said head coach Al […]
I missed the pool play of the Sweet 16 tournament this morning, but caught up with the teams as the brackets began. I caught El Paso defeat Roswell, Mayfield beat Ruidoso, Artesia over Carlsbad in four sets, and Gadsden beat Las Cruces in four sets. All in all, a great day for volleyball!
